Cable Union Airport 3CU
Welcome to this project website, from the Cable Union Airport Commission, Wisconsin Department of Transportation-Bureau of Aeronautics, and Cooper Engineering.
This project is a planning effort to study the obstructions in the Cable Union Airport’s “airspace”. Like almost all northwoods airports, the obstructions are primarily tree tops. “Airspace” is a general term used by FAA, Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), and airports to describe a regulated volume of air at and above an airport and its runways that is to be kept clear of obstructions by items such as towers, trees, power poles, and buildings. There are many types of airspace surfaces that FAA monitors and regulates. These surfaces are in the vicinity of runways and the extended centerlines of runways, the approach and departure paths. They affect airport property, and they normally extend over neighboring properties.
Due to tree growth over the last few decades, Cable Union Airport has lost some of its usable runway length. The purpose of this Environmental Assessment project is to study obstructions that exist and the feasibility of removing them. The project goals at the Cable Union Airport are:
Increase the safety of the airport for pilots, airport users, and adjacent neighbors
Clear the protective airspace of the approaches to the four runways to FAA standards
Restore useable runway length
The FAA, WisDOT, and the Cable Union Airport desire input from the public to discuss the feasibility of the project and its goals. Very key to the project will be input from:
Potentially affected airport neighboring property owners
WDNR
National Park Service (Namekagon Wild & Scenic Riverway)
Airport users
Local tourism entities
General public
Thank you for your participation in assessing this project. We look forward to working with you through this Environmental Assessment.
